Heart Walk

October 6, 2007

This is not my normal type of post but this is near and dear to my heart as it should be to every one’s.  I will be walking in the Atlanta Heart Walk this year.  The last few years I have raised money but could not get the day off to walk.  The “hazard of being a nurse”.  However, my new department head thinks that it is important for as many of us on the Telemetry (Heart/Vascular) actually walk.  I really like her “thinking”.  I have worked on this unit for 7 years and have seen so many advances and changes in Cardiovascular care.  Everything is “evidence based” and the predominate “driver” of the changes is the American Heart Association.  There research has changed the very basics of practice and they continue to learn more and make changes to improve our practice.  It ranges from the medicines we give, the drugs we use in Advanced Life Support, the the number of chest compressions we give all the way down to what we teach you in the hospital to live a better life.

I really hope that the readers of this blog will consider donating and supporting this cause.  Cardiovascular Diseases kill more Americans every year then anything else.  It knows no age, race or gender.

I will be walking on Nov 5th.  Interestingly enough November is also National Adoption Month.  So I will have something on to promote Adoption.  Something else near and dear to my HEART!
